Cosmic Circumstances
An Astrological Weather Report
By Steven Robins
June 1, 2006 - Gemini
Gemini, the charged mentality at the top of our seasonal roller coaster. The moon, heart spirit, in Leo's peak passion, reinforced by the demand of grounding (Saturn). Mind (Mercury), in restless mentality now (Gemini), will move over the top, into the flow of feeling (Cancer), Saturday. Heart (moon) moves through fruitful Virgo this weekend, loving Libra early next week, emotionally intense Scorpio by midweek, warm spirited Sagittarius next weekend. Soul and dreams are aligning in awareness (sun and Neptune trine in air signs).
Moon hits bottom early Monday the 12th, kicking off the week with constructiveness, peaking in awareness with through Aquarius midweek, turning Pisces tender Friday and Saturday. Mentally stimulated soul (Gemini sun) is charged by the weight of deep power (opposite Pluto in Sag), peaking Friday. Sunday the 18th, as action reinforces grounding in passion (Mars meeting Saturn in Leo), charged with emotional creativity (squaring Jupiter in Scorpio), the heart emerges midday into Aries spring fire expression. Deep, wise mind in tender
sensitivity (Uranus in Pisces) is finishing months of internalizing (retrograde) Monday morning, beginning to shift forward into revolutionary spiritual expression. Passionate action (Mars in Leo) releases charge from expansive emotional intensity (square Jupiter in Scorpio).
Wednesday morning June 21, with moon/heart in Taurus peak spring earthy fertility, the vitality of the sun reaches the pinnacle of our seasonal cycle, summer solstice, and all the energy built into it over the last six months begins to spill into outflow and release, starting with feeling for personal sensitivity (Cancer). A summer charged with undeniable passion (Saturn in Leo) and magnetized emotion (Jupiter in Scorpio) will have begun its powerful manifestation.
May 9 , 2006 - Taurus
As we approach the mid-spring full moon, action in flowing feeling (Mars in Cancer), expansiveness in spiritual intensity (Jupiter in Scorpio), and wisdom in tenderness (Uranus in Pisces) have been aligning (grand trine in water signs) to create an undeniable emotional core. With the sun (soul vitality) reaching the peak of earth power (in Taurus, mid-spring), the moon (heart sensitivity) will
be exactly opposite, at the peak of emotional intensity (in Scorpio, mid-autumn), for the full moon late Friday night, May 12.
It is a peak of elemental charging, drawing on dreams and healing in visionary
awareness (Neptune and Chiron in Aquarius, mid-winter). A burgeoning wave of spiritualized fertility will now build toward fruition at mid-summer (Leo). This Year of the Dog will see primal nature manifest in global transformation. We need only to accept it.
March 21, 2006
The first days of spring, the sun in Aries. It started slowly, with the moon sinking down (Sagittarius), then, Wednesday the 22nd, the moon rebounds, earthy and constructive (Capricorn), and kicks the new season into gear. A few more days of mind internalizing in emotional vulnerability (Mercury retrograde in Pisces, since March 2), then, on Saturday, the 25th, the mental tide finally starts flowing forward again. The real start of spring will be the new moon on Wednesday, March 29.
This is an intensely emotional year (Jupiter in Scorpio, currently internalizing/retrograde until July 6). The grounding influence (Saturn) ends months of backtracking in peak passion (Leo) on Wednesday, April 5, empowering the heart (moon) over the next few days. Charged mentality (Mars in Gemini opposite Pluto) peaks on Saturday, April 8, then turns into emotional release at the first full moon of spring on Thursday, the 13th.
Passover/Easter weekend is a potentially dramatic break-out of primal imperative. Allowing the forces of creation to manifest through us naturally, however unsettling, is key to the healthy expression and peaceful experience of overwhelming power. By the end of the month, the heart will come full circle and hit bottom again, and we'll move into the flowering of planetary fertility.
February 27, 2006
Today, the moon aligns with the sun (heart blends with soul) for late winter's new moon in tender sensitivity (Pisces). At a time when the pull of deep mind (Uranus) is living there, the power of wisdom requires a willingness to succumb to vulnerability.
By the end of the week, Mercury (mental functioning) begins a few weeks, and Jupiter (expansive creativity) begins a few months, of backtracking and internalizing (retrograde). Nothing wrong with this if we accept it. The mental tide (Mercury) will be undermining momentum, increasing reflection, until the March 25. Expansive manifestation (Jupiter) will be deepening and broadening, generating an internal charge of intense sensitivity (Scorpio), until it shifts forward, into powerful spiritual release, on July 9.
We are grounded in passion (Saturn in Leo), with visionary dreams (Neptune in Aquarius) charging creativity in magnetism (Jupiter in Scorpio). This is the season of emotional saturation (Pisces), preparation for spring's fertile emergence.
January 27, 2006
The Aquarius new moon, on Sunday, January 29, is the peak of alignment in awareness. Everything old has been stripped away, and the pressure of winter forces us into the center of our place amidst the pattern of creation. Distilled to our essence, it's the seed germination turning point. From here begins the process of purity's emergence.
This year it is intensified amidst a historic four-way elemental tension, charging us from all sides between grounding in passion (Saturn in Leo), creativity in magnetism (Jupiter in Scorpio), action in fertility (Mars in Taurus) and dreams in awareness (Neptune, with sun and moon, in Aquarius).
Love is at the end of an internalizing period (Venus retrograde). The quarter moon, February 4-6, more tension breaks between spring fever and dreamy creativity. The full moon on Sunday, the 12th, is the powerful release of new life forged from primal nature at the new moon's peak of visionary awareness. The Year of the Dog has begun.
January 13, 2006
We've reached the culmination of a powerful alignment in the energy tides. Planets are at the exact midpoints of all four seasons, the peak power points for all four elements (fire, air, water, earth), in what's called a grand cross. It's always a big deal, but this one is of the maximum possible intensity, with potentially historic consequences. When the full heart (moon) reaches the peak of passion (Leo) on Sunday night, it joins creativity in magnetism (Jupiter in Scorpio), dreams in awareness (Neptune in Aquarius), and action in fertility (Mars in Taurus) at the turning point of an energizing crossfire. We all need to accept our place amidst this intensifying alignment, endure its potentially overwhelming experience, and ride out the release of primal forces that are bound to be unleashed in its wake. Armageddon is not the end of the world. It's the power of nature breaking though the tension of an unhealthy social order, the light of divinity reclaiming terrestrial reality, whatever the trauma of transition. We must allow creation to run its course, sustained by the grace of genuine heartfulness.
Capricorn 2006
Though the sun hit the bottom of our seasonal cycle, winter solstice, on Wednesday, December 21, the moon was one quarter behind it, spirit dragging down one more week before finally joining the sun at the bottom of things, Capricorn new moon, on Friday, December 30. This completes the solstice process for this year, a fresh start at the primal ground of new beginnings.
Venus, the light of love and beauty, has gone retrograde, internalizing its glow. Mars, the action impulse, is in peak spring earth power (Taurus) opposite expansive Jupiter in peak emotion (Scorpio). As the new year begins, action in fertility (Mars in Taurus), charged by creativity in magnetism (Jupiter in Scorpio), is feeding the Capricorn new moon with earthy intensity, giving us a primal push. We're centered in passion (Saturn in Leo), with love, healing and dreams (Venus, Chiron and Neptune) out ahead in visionary awareness (Aquarius).
The first week of January, the moon (heart spirit), grounded in constructiveness, progresses through peak awareness (Aquarius) and the turn toward tenderness (Pisces) before emerging into early spring passion (Aries) on Thursday, the 5th. By the weekend it's strong in earth power (Taurus), rising to the heights of mental perspective (Gemini) Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday, the 12th, the nearly full moon spills over the top of the seasonal cycle into the release of flowing feeling (Cancer). That's where it will be full late Friday night, just as love is blending with soul (Venus aligning with sun).
By Saturday night, the 14th, the recently full moon moves into summer passion (Leo) for powerful, maybe dramatic expression, as action in fertility (Mars in Taurus) reaches the peak of its charging opposition to expansiveness in magnetism (Jupiter in Scorpio). The following week, more and more energy comes out in the service of our constructive new beginning (Virgo moon). From here, we will go through mid-winter, the Aquarian alignment in intelligent awareness amidst the pattern of natural creation.

Chinese New Year
2006: Year of the Dog
Chinese New Year begins on the second new moon after the Winter Solstice (Aquarius/Aquarius). In 2006 the new moon falls on January 29 signaling the start of the cycle known as the Year of the Dog.
People born in Dog years possess the qualities one associates with man’s best friend. They are loyal, honest, make excellent friends and empathize with the underdog. They honor commitments, make sacrifices for those they love and have impeccable principles.
On the negative side, they can be stubborn and impulsive — they prefer to react, rather than plan for the future. Dogs are also emotionally color blind, seeing life in black and white — friend or foe, good or bad — rather than perceiving life’s many shades of grey.
Dog years are traditionally a time of fairness and equality in which controversial issues are given due consideration and social oppression is opposed. Integrity and honesty are the values that lead to success under Dog's watchful influence. The Dog is no friend to people like Tom Delay, the disgraced, lobbyist-influenced, former leader of the House of Representatives. (Or top gun, über hawk, draft-dodger, Dick Cheney, for that matter.)
The Dog is also a defender of both land and property, so it will be interesting to see how the inflated U.S. real estate market fares with this dogged defender in its corner. Also watch the immanent domain cases being currently being fought in many US states to see if individual property rights can trump corporate greed.
Dogs are not materialistic, which might explain why Toyota now feels free to compete in the marketplace by stressing economy, rather than trying to build increasingly larger ego boxes, like the gas-swilling SUVs that are finally sinking the fortunes of GM and Ford.
In general, the Dog is a Puritan of sorts who rewards hard work and steadfast activity. In 2006, keep your nose to the grindstone andyour tax write-offs honest.
Sometimes accepting the limitations of the leash that binds you to your obligations will pay off with the love and security that can be the reward for loyalty.
