California Astrologer, Steve Robins, has been sharing his unique vision of how the planets affect mankind for the past two decades. Not content to follow the traditional horoscope model, Robins strives to place astral events into an organic context. His insight into the cosmic wisdom that can be gleaned from our solar system’s planetary movements is unlike any other.
Sagittarius, 2007
Getting down to the bottom of things, this year is especially powerful.
For years, deep, heavy, transformative Pluto, on its long, slow 248-year course, has been dragging down to the low point of our natural seasonal cycle, the end of Sagittarius. On December 11, expansive, creative Jupiter, on its 12-year cycle, will meet it there. This is hugely historic. Creativity and power together at the very bottom of things, with the moon's sensitivity there too, just to make sure we feel it.
This is the culmination of a process that in some ways began in '77-'78, when the outer planets lined up in the autumn quarter of the sky, initiating an era all about the deeper level of nature getting ahold of us and dragging us down to the ground of new and healthier beginnings. The tension-based order has been collapsing as the power of true nature has been heating up. Now, when creative Jupiter aligns with the sun at the winter solstice on December 21, and together they hit bottom, rebounding in the primal power of constructive Capricorn (with powerful Pluto joining over the next year), we have arrived at the profound, if sometimes traumatic, transition to a planetary culture rooted in the undeniable manifestation of creation's divine power. All that is unhealthy, based on the distortions of control and denial, will fail, superceeded by the awesome forces of underlying nature.
We begin this month with a full moon on Saturday, November 24, just as wisdom completes months of internalizing in tenderness and begins to flow outward again. (Uranus ends retrograde in Pisces.) We have been weighed down by deep mind in vulnerability. If we have accepted it, we've gained the benefits of tender wisdom, which now should become more actively useful. Charged with creative power, the full heart spills over into emotional flow late Sunday night/Monday morning, just as love and dreams are blending in awareness. (The moon, full in Gemini opposite sun, Jupiter, and Pluto in Sagittarius, goes over the top into Cancer, while Venus and Neptune are trine in air signs.) This begins two weeks of outflowing energy release.
The moon aligns with the sun for the Sagittarius new moon at our seasonal low ebb on Sunday, December 9. It joins creative Jupiter and powerful Pluto on the morning of Monday the 10th, then moves into constructive Capricorn. Jupiter and Pluto align exactly on Tuesday the 11th. Heart sensitivity (moon) will move through a week of winter processing before emerging into spring spirit on Monday the 17th. Jupiter hits bottom, into Capricorn, for the first time in 12 years on Tuesday the 18th. The sun meets heavy power Pluto at the very bottom of things on Thursday afternoon, the 20th.
At 10:08 pm Pacific time on Friday, December 21, the vitality of the sun hits the low point of the year, winter solstice, joining creative Jupiter in Capricorn. A new year of earth-shaking primal power begins.
October 20, 2007
The Jews have a holiday, Yom Kippur. I call it the Jewish Easter. The Day of Atonement. (Or, I prefer, At-one-ment.) They had it a month ago, but the Hebrews use a lunar calendar, and I think they got it wrong this year. I think it's today.
It's the one day a year they fast and talk about sin. Huh? Growing up as a young liberal Jew in West Hollywood in the 60's, this threw me. Sin? You must want the people next door. The gentiles hold back, afraid of being bad. We're overbearing, feel guilty for not being and doing enough good. All day in temple, chanting in minor keys, confessing your sins and seeking redemption? Where'd that come
from? And why today?
Jesus got in trouble (it is claimed) for saying that religion is fine if it helps you get right with God, but, as Abraham, the common patriarch of Jews, Christians, and Muslims understood, it's all about healing in alignment with the divine, and whatever truly works for that is fine. Everything else is just more bad TV.
Yom Kippur was designed to fall on the day that the sun is in Libra, the first month of autumn, the first "air" sign, introducing awareness of love and harmony, and the moon (ten days after the last new moon) is out in Aquarius, mid-winter of our natural seasonal cycle, where the process of alignment in awareness reaches it's isolating peak, the test we'll all have to go through in coming months if we are to emerge with a strong, clarified seed essence, ready to manifest flowering
fertility, in the coming spring. Today, with soul (sun) in love-mindedness (Libra) and heart (moon) in isolation amidst undeniable awareness (Aquarius), is the Day of At-one-ment. (It peaks on Sunday at 12:39 pm Pacific time, then turns into tenderness.) There's something about accepting the truth (including regret and
discomfort, maybe even loneliness and yearning) that comes with our place at the center of awareness that is part of settling, in healthy groundedness, at the heart of our purified essence, in right relationship with all creation, available, in kind clarity, to the rewards of grace, even in threatening times.
In a beautiful, troubled world, as well-meaning but often damaged people, it's good to be forced into the center of ourselves, challenged to admit (allow in) the complete truth of our experience. Because any correction we need does not come from earnest effort but from allowing nature to have its way with us. We just need to accept it.
By accepting alignment at the heart of awareness, we are grounded in right relationship to all of creation, available to the love that is true nurturance.
It can feel lonely and tender at times, but it's just because we're being centered in awareness amidst all interrelationship.
Libra, 2007
The first of autumn. Sunset for the year, romantic color and renewed fertility. The centering influence, after a couple of years reinforcing our passion, has now progressed into fruitful development. It's a fresh start in the land of love.
We begin the month on Sunday, September 23, with a solid core of awareness, heart aligned with healing dreams, action supporting love-mindedness. The new week starts with tender feeling, then on Wednesday the 26th the heart emerges into spring spirit for the Libra/Aries full moon, empowering us toward love's fulfillment. By the weekend it is solid with the power of the earth. Friday evening the action impulse shifts from mentality to flowing feeling. Heart turns thoughtful, reflective on Sunday, then on Tuesday, October 2nd, joins action over the top into emotional expression. Beauty is blending with power in passion.
The weekend of the 6th the heart moves through powerful radiance, emerging Sunday into tangible consequence. Expansive creativity, completing a year in philosophical warmth, is energized with sensitive wisdom, releasing on Tuesday the 9th just as heart crosses into lovingness. Wednesday night, October 10, is the Libra new moon, heart and soul aligning in awareness of true harmony, setting us on that course. Mind, which has led the way, now slows to a stop, beginning a few weeks of internalizing and deepening on Thursday night. Soul and dreams are blending in awareness as the heart succumbs to undeniable emotional intensity Friday and Saturday.
We are grounded in the beauty of fruitful outcome, our new aligning emphasis. Heart, saturated in the magnetism of spirit, settles down to the bottom of things through Tuesday the 16th. Wednesday we awaken having hit bottom, rebounding in constructiveness. By the weekend of the 20th the moon has come full circle, again joining healing dreams at the center of panoramic perspective, supporting the sun as it completes a month in loving mental attitude.
A rite of passage, we must accept alignment in awareness, key to our survival. Nature is forcing us into right relationship with all creation.
Virgo, 2007
The full moon eclipse releases in tenderness (Pisces). Wednesday the 29th it moves into spring spirit for a month of ripening fruitfulness, culminating at the new moon solar eclipse in Virgo on September 11. This is the earthy harvest of passionate consequences.
Monday the 3rd is full of activated wisdom, creativity, vitality and heart, beginning a couple days charged with mentality. Wednesday the 5th, mind moves into love and we shift into emotional release. Friday the 7th, deep power completes internalizing and begins to move forward again. Saturday the 8th, charged-up beauty begins to flow outward just as action and dreams are blending in awareness. Tension between vitality and wisdom shifts into expression Sunday morning. Tuesday the 11th is a fruitful convergence. Spirit gets down to the bottom of things Wednesday the 19th, releasing power and getting primal hitting bottom at sunset. From here, the grounded, constructive impulse takes over, resolving old matters, with action energizing power and love charging our dreams, peaking on Friday the 21st.
By the time we cross the equinox as the sun moves into Libra's love-mindedness on Sunday the 23rd, the first day of autumn, the beginning of our new year's fertility cycle, the moon/heart will be out in the visionary perspective of Aquarius. It's all about accepting awareness, the key to godly at-one-ment.
Moody?
Coming through increased intensity at a time of practical consequences is making for sometimes prickly energy. One minute everything is truly great and lining up, at another there's a feeling of irritation and impatience. Things are sorting and adjusting in the practical world to accommodate our activated essence. Inspired by what we truly feel, it's hard to tolerate what doesn't work. Should be some resolving convergence in concrete matters at the Virgo new moon on September 11, a fresh start for the new year of fertility that begins with autumn. Got to accept the energy of every moment and give things a chance to sort and settle. In a year of intensified passion, it's harvest time.
Leo, 2007
Mid-summer, the peak of passion in a year of reinforced intensity. Everything that's been heating up now reaches the boiling point, either powering us toward true fulfillment or exploding from pressure that can no longer be contained. August has brought many historic moments, where long-building tension has broken into dramatic development. This will probably be one.
At the full moon on Sunday, July 29 (5:48pm PDT), our souls are full of passion (sun in Leo) and our hearts are isolated in awareness (full moon in Aquarius). From here the energy builds. On Monday, August 6, grounding aligns with deep expression (Saturn trine Pluto) and expansive creativity completes months of internalizing and turns forward again (Jupiter finishes retrograde), all in the passion of fire signs. By the time the moon meets the sun for Leo new moon on Sunday, August 12 (4:02pm PDT), the peak power turning point of the year, the heat of passion will be undeniable. Divine manifestation, however traumatic, will break through resistance and redraw the landscape. We must accept this and, yielding to our hearts, find our place amidst it.
It is a hugely powerful moment. God is reclaiming this plan.
Gemini, 2007
At a time of intensified passion, a month charged with mentality as we approach the top of our seasonal cycle, summer solstice, on June 21. After that, the energy that's been building breaks out into powerful manifestation.
May 1, 2007
Mid-spring, Taurus, the peak of earth power. Solid with the weight of substance, we need to accept it as grounding (not just exhausting) and give life a chance to unfold like a flower. Especially in this year of intensified passion and deep vulnerability, we must let nature have its way with us and see where it leads.
Early Wednesday May 2 is the mid-spring full moon, the vitality of the sun one with the earth (Taurus), the full heart (moon) in the grip of magnetic spirit (Scorpio). Through the week we go down, down to the bottom of things (Sagittarius), then Sunday morning the heart (moon) rebounds in primal power (constructive Capricorn).
We go through alignment in awareness midweek (Aquarius moon) just as love shifts into flowing feeling (Venus into Cancer). By the end of the week we're activated by sensitive wisdom (moon with Mars and Uranus in Pisces). Saturday night the 12th, our earthy souls charged with the power of visionary dreams (sun in Taurus square Neptune in Aquarius), our heart emerges in the passion of spring spirit (Aries). Sunday is an energized Mother's Day.
By Wednesday the 16th, the moon and sun (heart and soul) align at the peak of earthy fertility (Taurus) for the mid-spring new moon. From there we climb through mental heights (Gemini moon) and then Friday night the 19th, the earth-empowered heart (moon) launches over the top of our seasonal cycle into emotional release (Cancer). One more month until a big summer of powerful passion.
April 19 , 2007
The lessons of intensified passion we've been processing since December are now complete. For the rest of the year we will ride a big wave of powerful manifestation. It may be traumatic, but it's just undeniable nature breaking through resistance. Divinity is reclaiming us. We must give in to the tide of goodness beneath all this madness.
April 14 , 2007
We are completing a month of intense core passion just as healing power (testing our woundedness) reaches the peak of isolation in awareness. Saturated in tenderness, we emerge renewed starting Sunday for the first new moon of spring (very late this year) on Tuesday morning. From here, all the intensified passion will unfold in flowering fertility.
March 30, 2007
Aries, the passion of early spring in a year of intensified passion. The
light of love leads the way into earthy fertility (Venus in Taurus). Wisdom
is meeting spirituality in tender sensitivity (Uranus with moon node in
Pisces). Action is aligned with dreams and healing in visionary awareness
(Mars with Neptune and Chiron in Aquarius).
Sunday March 25th the built-up heart spirit went into the release of flowing
feeling (Moon into Cancer), kicking off a week of powerful energy
expression, peaking Wednesday and Thursday (moon with Saturn in Leo) with
the fire of passion undeniable. At a time emphasizing isolation in
awareness and the challenge of vulnerability, such intense energy can
be unnerving. All part of getting us to accept nature and let it have its
way with us, settling us with our deeper, truer selves.
Heavy power is slowing to a stop, beginning months of internalizing in
warm-spirited adventurousness on Saturday the 31st (Pluto goes retrograde in
Sagittarius). Sunday April 1 the heart moves into love-mindedness (moon in
Libra) where it will be full Monday. Down into peak emotion through the
week (moon in Scorpio), with expansive creativity also beginning months of
internalizing in spiritual warmth Thursday night (Jupiter goes retrograde in
Sagittarius). Action moves from peak awareness into tender expression (Mars
from Aquarius into Pisces) as the heart gets down to the bottom of things
for the weekend (moon in Sagittarius).
Sunday night the 8th the heart spirit hits bottom, rebounding in earthy
constructiveness and power assertion (moon into Capricorn). Soul
vitality in spring fire (sun in Aries) is making a solid core of passion
with centering grounding (Saturn in Leo) and expansive creativity (Jupiter
in Sagittarius). An extremely powerful time, with the fire in our soul
undeniable, bound to come out one way or another. The following week we go
through essence alignment (moon in Aquarius) and then saturating tenderness
(moon in Pisces).
By Sunday morning the 15th the heart emerges into spring spirit, where it
will align with the soul (sun) for the first new moon of spring (in Aries)
Tuesday morning, new year for much of the world. As grounding completes
months of internalizing in peak passion (Saturn goes direct in Leo) we move
forward from an intense month of core fire into the peak of spring,
where fertility unfolds in colorful flowering.
February 26, 2007
Pisces, late winter, a time of emotional sensitivity. The mental tide is turning inward (Mercury retrograde, until March 8), undermining momentum, increasing reflection, requiring us to be flexible and adaptive in communication and connection.
With the fire of passionate expression reinforced (Jupiter in Sagittarius trining Saturn in Leo, peaking March 16), Sunday, night February 25 the moon went over the top of our seasonal cycle, kicking off the built-up release of flowing feeling. These days deep mind is moving through tenderness (Uranus in Pisces--the sun will align there March 5). We don't get the benefit of wisdom unless we accept the challenge of vulnerability.
Grounding in passion is internalizing (Saturn in Leo retrograde) and has come back to a peak of energizing tension with dreams in awareness (opposite Neptune in Aquarius, exact on February 28). It is an intensifying undercurrent to what is happening during this especially emotional time. Preparation for a powerfully fertile spring and summer.
February 16, 2007
Mercury retrograde? Fuggettaboutit. Yeah, the mental tide has started flowing inward until March 7. Don't buy into this, "It's bad for communication and connection, don't start projects, don't sign contracts," stuff. Yes, it undermines mental momentum, interferes with our plans, makes us reflective, gives us second thoughts, but that can all be good if we allow it and adjust. Magical, unexpected connections, communication with greater depth, changes to plans that end up better, sudden developments that turn out to be great opportunities. Are we trying to control or willing to be part of nature? As always, acceptance settles us and leaves us in healthy relationship to the tides of life.
This mid-winter new moon is the culmination of simplification and alignment under pressure. We've been stripped of whatever we can do without, reduced to our seed essence, forced into our separate corners amidst our awareness ("Now, with internalizing mind!"). This new moon Saturday morning is the peak of isolating alignment amidst all interconnection, and now we turn the corner toward renewed and revitalized emergence. It's the Chinese New Year, completing the emotionally intense Year of the Dog, beginning the more content Year of the Pig.
Meanwhile, where unhealthy tensions have been harbored, individually and globally, the activation of inner nature can be traumatic. But it really is the power of nature breaking through resistance. In a year of reinforced passion, let's hope it brings healthy developments for everyone.
The mid-winter new moon, turning point for seed essence alignment. When the moon meets the sun in Aquarius on Saturday morning February 17 at 8:14am Pacific time, we complete the process of isolation in awareness and, simplified in our nature amidst the pattern of life's interrelationship, we are activated by the magic of fertility. From here we will be drawn out by nurturance into flowering and fruition.
February 1, 2007
We've reached the mid-winter full moon. A power alignment turning point. Soul isolated in awareness, heart full at the peak of passion. (sun in Aquarius, moon full in Leo, 9:45pm Pacific time Thursday, Feb 1) We are drawn back into our separate selves amidst the pressures of life and the pattern of our interrelated involvement. We are stripped down to our essence. The seed shell is cracking, true nature is being activated. The passionate heart will break through old structures, releasing energy that will forge vital new arrangements.
Soul, dreams and healing are together in visionary awareness. (sun, Neptune and Chiron in Aquarius) Love, wisdom and spirituality are together in tender sensitivity. (Venus, Uranus and moon node in Pisces)
We must accept purification amidst the pressure of survival, letting creation manifest naturally. In two weeks, when the moon meets the sun in mid-winter on Saturday, February 17 (Aquarius new moon), heart and soul will converge at the center of divine intelligence. This is the seed germination moment. From here, renewed fertility will emerge, through saturating nurturance in vulnerability, into full flowering with the coming spring.
It's all about accepting isolation in awareness amidst the pressure to connect, allowing nature to have its way with us, leaving us in a better relationship to everything.
January 17, 2007
After two weeks of energy outflow, the moon now joins the sun at the bottom of our seasonal cycle, earthy Capricorn, for the first new moon of winter, 8pm Pacific time Thursday January 18. Heart (moon), soul (sun) and action (Mars) are together at the firm ground of new beginnings. From here, over the next month, we will move through mid-winter's alignment in awareness (Aquarius), where mind, love, healing and dreams (Mercury, Venus, Chiron and Neptune) are leading the way.
January 2, 2007
We begin the new year with the first full moon of winter. The sun is in Capricorn, the primal power rebounding off the bottom of our seasonal cycle. On Tuesday morning January 2 the moon went over the top into Cancer, the release of flowing feeling. It will be full there Wednesday morning.
After a year charged with intensified emotion, this year is about the passion of expression. A peak around Sunday the 13th is a good example of what it will be like. The shift to powerful action starting Tuesday the 16th will show where it's headed.
Forces of underlying tension, building for a long time, are threatening to boil over. It's just the power of nature breaking through resistance. We must retreat to the tender essence of our truest dearness and yield to the divine light that will lead us
through any darkness.
December 18, 2006
This year, in rare synchronicity, we have an especially powerful winter solstice, with the moon and sun meeting together at the bottom of our seasonal cycle, heart and soul converging at the ground of new beginnings.
On Monday 12/18, after six months spending its energy going down the cosmic roller coaster, the sun, our soul vitality, meets heavy Pluto at the low ebb in warm, philosophical Sagittarius. The moon, our heart sensitivity, is right behind it, meeting expansive Jupiter and activating Mars there. Early Wednesday the moon meets deep power Pluto, and then, at 6:01am Pacific time Wednesday morning, it aligns with the sun for the Sagittarius new moon, heart blending with soul in resolving passion at the bottom of things.
At 8:39am Pacific time on Wednesday morning we begin this year's powerful solstice shift when the moon leads the way hitting bottom, moving into earthy Capricorn. Then on Thursday 12/21 at 4:23pm Pacific time, just as tension finally breaks between action and wisdom (Mars square Uranus), the sun hits bottom for the year, winter solstice. Heart and soul are now together in grounded renewal and emergence, rebounding in the primal power of constructive Capricorn. After sinking as low as it will go, we celebrate the return of the sun and, from this point forward, the growing light of divine nurturance.
After a year of intensified feeling (Jupiter in Scorpio), we begin a new year of reinforced passion (Saturn in Leo, Jupiter and Pluto in Sagittarius--all fire signs). May the warm, adventurous spirit of the seasonal cycle that starts here bring comfort and fulfillment to us all.
