Capricorn 2006
Though the sun hit the bottom of our seasonal cycle, winter solstice, on Wednesday, December 21, the moon was one quarter behind it, spirit dragging down one more week before finally joining the sun at the bottom of things, Capricorn new moon, on Friday, December 30. This completes the solstice process for this year, a fresh start at the primal ground of new beginnings.
Venus, the light of love and beauty, has gone retrograde, internalizing its glow. Mars, the action impulse, is in peak spring earth power (Taurus) opposite expansive Jupiter in peak emotion (Scorpio). As the new year begins, action in fertility (Mars in Taurus), charged by creativity in magnetism (Jupiter in Scorpio), is feeding the Capricorn new moon with earthy intensity, giving us a primal push. We're centered in passion (Saturn in Leo), with love, healing and dreams (Venus, Chiron and Neptune) out ahead in visionary awareness (Aquarius).
The first week of January, the moon (heart spirit), grounded in constructiveness, progresses through peak awareness (Aquarius) and the turn toward tenderness (Pisces) before emerging into early spring passion (Aries) on Thursday, the 5th. By the weekend it's strong in earth power (Taurus), rising to the heights of mental perspective (Gemini) Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday, the 12th, the nearly full moon spills over the top of the seasonal cycle into the release of flowing feeling (Cancer). That's where it will be full late Friday night, just as love is blending with soul (Venus aligning with sun).
By Saturday night, the 14th, the recently full moon moves into summer passion (Leo) for powerful, maybe dramatic expression, as action in fertility (Mars in Taurus) reaches the peak of its charging opposition to expansiveness in magnetism (Jupiter in Scorpio). The following week, more and more energy comes out in the service of our constructive new beginning (Virgo moon). From here, we will go through mid-winter, the Aquarian alignment in intelligent awareness amidst the pattern of natural creation.
Sagittarius 2005
We've made it through Scorpio, the peak of emotional intensity. Now we're in Sagittarius, the last month of autumn, settling down warm and homey toward the bottom of our seasonal cycle. Big, creative Jupiter will move through Scorpio this year, making intensity of feeling our underlying theme. Because it's aligning with deep mind Uranus in tender, sensitive Pisces, the key to surviving expansive emotionalism (Jupiter in Scorpio) will be yielding to wisdom in vulnerability (Uranus in Pisces).
The mental tide (Mercury) is finishing a few weeks of backtracking, and will start to flow forward again Saturday night, December 3. For months, the action impulse (Mars) has also been internalizing, in earthy Taurus. It's been charging us with motivation in fertility. The night of Friday, December 9 it shifts into outward expression. We are grounded in passion (Saturn in Leo), our dreams are centered in awareness (Neptune in Aquarius), and we're ready to act on what's been generating inside us.
After a few days of emotional settling, the moon (heart) joins the sun (soul) for the last new moon of the year, down at the bottom of things, on Thursday, December 1. Spirit energy rebounds in earthy constructiveness starting Friday night, the 2nd, moves through isolation in awareness and into tender sensitivity the following week, and emerges into spring feeling by Friday, the 9th. Heart spirit builds the next week, peaking in visionary mentality with the full moon on Thursday, the 15th.
With soul anchored by heavy power (sun with Pluto), the full moon energy spills over the top into the release of flowing feeling on the night of the 15th, making for an emotionally expressive weekend, progressing into powerful passion Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. By Wednesday, December 21, we'll have reached the winter solstice, the vitality of the sun hitting bottom for the year, moving into the primal earth power of Capricorn. An intensely emotional time on this planet will have a fresh start for constructive new beginnings.
November 15, 2005 - Scorpio Full Moon
Many people have been asking lately why things have been so intensely, sometimes overwhelmingly, emotional. Tonight's full moon is the peak of what's been building.
Scorpio, mid-autumn, is an intensely emotional point in our seasonal cycle, the peak water sign, where the magnetism of spirit is most concentrated. This year, just as the sun (soul vitality) moved into Scorpio for the month, Jupiter (expansive creativity) moved into it for the year, reinforcing the power of the experience. On the opposite side of the sky, adding charging tension to this building emotion, Mars, the action/expression influence, is in the middle of months of being retrograde, backtracking, internalizing, in Taurus, the peak earth sign of mid-spring. Action internalizing in earth power, pulling opposite the expansive soul being drawn into the emotional vortex.
At the same time, Saturn, the grounding/aligning influence, is in Leo, the peak fire sign passion of mid-summer, while Neptune, the pull of deepest feelings, is in Aquarius, mid-winter's peak air sign isolation in awareness. All four seasonal and elemental mid-points are anchored, in what is called a Grand Cross. And we are in the middle, enduring the moody intensity of rising emotional power. It's been building since the Scorpio new moon on Wednesday, November 1, peaking in charging intensity with the full moon tonight, Tuesday, November 15. It will begin shifting into full release, after a few more days of anxious mentality, this weekend. A defining moment in the magnetism of spiritual experience.
What does it mean? I don't know.I'm just a tide watcher. But it sure feels like something is about to break into the open, even more than we've seen so far. California earthquake? Bush karma collision in Asia? Desperate hearts finding perfect soul bonding in the shadow of apocalypse? Beats me. I just want everything to work out nice for everyone. And chocolate milk in all the drinking fountains.
Right Mercury has gone retrograde. Nothing wrong with that. Quick mind turning inward for a few weeks. Uranus, deep, wise mind, has just finished its retrograde and begun flowing outward again. See, it's always something. There is no bad astrology, just energy tides we may not like or understand. The universe unfolds beautifully, including the room for resistance, distortion, and all the ugliness that comes when tensions play themselves out. This is a moment of intensified isolation in feeling. It's probably is good for us. Let's accept it and see what happens.
October 24, 2005 - Scorpio
Scorpio, the magnetic gravity of undeniable spirit. Expansive, 12-year cycle Jupiter, after a year in love-minded Libra, is progressing into Scorpio's emotional intensity for the next year. It will serve us if we accept it.
The sun (soul vitality) crossed into Scorpio, mid-autumn, on Sunday the 23rd, with the moon (heart sensitivity) in flowing feeling (Cancer). Dreams are internalizing in awareness (Neptune retrograde in Aquarius), action is internalizing in fertility (Mars retrograde in Taurus). A time of powerful depth. Late Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, the heart moves through peak passion (moon in Leo). Deep receptivity stands still inside us, begins to flow forward again (retrograde Neptune turns direct). Thursday, Friday, early Saturday, heart spirit comes out in earthy fruitfulness (moon in Virgo) just as beauty aligns with power in philosophical warmth (Venus meets Pluto in Sagittarius).
Saturday afternoon, the 29th, the heart crosses into awareness of real love (moon in Libra) as the intensifying soul blends with wisdom in vulnerability (sun in Scorpio trine Uranus in Pisces). By Halloween, the heart has joined the soul in magnetic gravity (moon with sun in Scorpio), where they align, reinforced by expansive creativity (Jupiter), for the mid-autumn new moon, Tuesday evening, November 1. A powerful convergence in spirit. This intensified focus is charged with grounding in passion (Saturn in Leo) and dreams in awareness (Neptune in Aquarius). The emotionally-charged heart gets down to the bottom of things Thursday and Friday (moon in Sagittarius). Saturday morning, heart and beauty hit bottom together (moon and Venus into Capricorn), rebounding in primal power. Emotional soul releases charge from internalizing action in fertility and visionary dreams (Scorpio sun opposite retrograde Mars in Taurus, square Neptune in Aquarius). A powerful shift for everyone, everywhere.
The week starting Monday the 7th, we move through alignment in awareness (moon in Aquarius, peaking Tuesday), then a shift to tender vulnerability (moon in Pisces). Friday night, the heart spirit emerges into spring energy (moon in Aries) for the weekend. By Sunday night, quick mind is turning inward for a few weeks (Mercury retrograde), just as deep mind completes months of internalizing in vulnerability (retrograde Uranus in Pisces turns direct). Arriving at the challenging intensity of the mid-autumn full moon Tuesday night the 15th, soul is at peak emotion (sun in Scorpio), heart is fully charged at the peak of earth power (moon in Taurus), and wisdom in tenderness (Uranus in Pisces) leads the way if we let it.
The heart spirit climbs to the mental activity at the top of our seasonal cycle Wednesday and Thursday (moon in Gemini) as beauty blends with action in constructive manifestation (Venus trine Mars in earth signs). Friday afternoon, as earthy action is charged with grounding in passion (Mars in Taurus square Saturn in Leo), the recently full moon spills over into flowing release for the weekend (moon in Cancer). Heart and soul are aligned in feeling (moon trine sun in water signs), and a rite of passage through the magnetic intensity of Scorpio is complete. A new fertility cycle baptized in spirit has begun.
September 23, 2005 - Libra
On Thursday, September 22, the sun crosses into Libra, the first month of autumn, bringing mindfulness of true love and harmony. A colorful, romantic sunset for the year. It begins with the moon (heart) in Gemini, also an air sign, emphasizing mental processing, building to the top on its monthly trip around our seasonal cycle. Saturday evening, just as beauty is charged with dreams (Venus square Neptune), the heart goes over the top (moon in Cancer), into the release of flowing feeling.
The week of the 26th, the heart continues with the momentum of expression, moving through peak passion (Leo) Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. By Friday, the heart, in this time of intensified love-thinking, turns to resolving old business (Virgo). All summer, the action impulse (Mars) has been moving deep into the power of earthy fertility (Taurus). Now slows to a stop and seems to backtrack (retrograde), beginning several months of internalizing, deepening and strengthening the solid foundation of our primal expression. Saturday night, tension that's been building between the spirit of young male and female (Mars opposite Venus) breaks out into the open.
Sunday morning, October 2, the heart joins the soul in love awareness (moon with sun in Libra), aligning exactly (new moon) early Monday morning. The new year's fertility cycle has begun. With expansive creativity completing a year in harmony-seeking (Jupiter in Libra: Year of the Rooster), this is a rite of passage, a time reinforcing our understanding of true and sustaining love, preparation for the intensifying year to come (Jupiter in Scorpio: Year of the Dog). The love-anointed heart projects through undeniable magnetic emotion (moon in Scorpio) Tuesday night, Wednesday and Thursday, then settles down to the adventurous spirit at the bottom of things (Sagittarius) Friday and Saturday. Now it's the loving soul that's empowered by visionary dreams (Libra sun trine Neptune in Aquarius).
The heart hits bottom, rebounding off the ground with primal earthiness (moon into Capricorn) starting early Sunday morning, October 9, then moves into the aligning vortex of awareness Tuesday and Wednesday. With expansive creativity empowering the love-minded soul (Jupiter with the sun in Libra) and deep feelings supporting the seed-centered heart (Neptune with the moon in Aquarius), this initiation in revolutionary vision (The Jewish Day of At-one-ment) is a righteous moment, preparing us for the test of heart and soul survival we are heading into with the coming winter. It is the absolute acceptance of alignment in awareness (however solitary amidst the pattern of life's interconnection) that is required for the purified essence to emerge, through pressured challenge, into the strengthened flourishing of a triumphant new spring. The softening thaw that comes Thursday, Friday, into Saturday, is the saturation in vulnerable tenderness that the essence needs for true spiritual nurturance.
Saturday, the 15th, at midday, the heart crosses into spring spirit (moon in Aries), where it will be full opposite the early autumn soul (sun in Libra) early Monday morning. Beauty is supported by grounding in passion (Venus trine Saturn in fire signs). Mind is charged with dreams (Mercury square Neptune). The fully charged heart (recent full moon) builds in peak spring fertility (moon in Taurus) Tuesday and Wednesday, reaching the heights of sometimes-restless mentality (moon in Gemini) Thursday and Friday.
Just as the heart spills over into flowing release on Saturday, the 22nd (moon into Cancer), the soul fully aligns with empowering expansiveness in loving thoughtfulness (sun conjunct Jupiter in Libra). Together, vitality and creativity (sun and Jupiter) will now move into the intensifying magnetism of mid-autumn, and a year that will make the power of spirit impossible to deny.
September 5, 2005
We've just had the Virgo new moon (Saturday 9/3), kicking off a time resolving matters. Deep power has just finished months of internalizing (Pluto retrograde) and begun to shift forward again.
Monday the 5th the moon (heart spirit) projects into Libra, autumn feeling, where beauty just aligned with creativity (Venus conjunct Jupiter), and Wednesday, Thursday, into Friday, it goes through the peak emotion of Scorpio (while mind is charged with wisdom — Mercury opposite Uranus). By the weekend it's settling down to the bottom of things, Sagittarius.
Monday the 12th the moon is rebounding in Capricorn's primal constructiveness, and by Tuesday it's making a grand trine in the three earth signs: sun in Virgo's harvest, moon in practical Capricorn, and active Mars in fertile Taurus. The heart (moon) moves through visionary Aquarius Wednesday and Thursday (as soul and mind are charged with power--sun and Mercury square Pluto), moving into tender Pisces Friday, where it's full (opposite the fruitful Virgo sun) Saturday night.
Sunday the 18th the moon goes into passionate Aries (as beauty is blending with wisdom — Venus trine Uranus), and it's building in spring energy the following week when the sun crosses the autumn equinox, sunset for the year, on Thursday September 22, joining expansive Jupiter in Libra's love-awareness.
By the end of October the sun and Jupiter will move into Scorpio together, beginning a year of magnetic intensity.
LEO - July 23, 2005
Since June 2003, Saturn, the thirty-year cycle centering/grounding influence, has been in Cancer, the release of flowing feeling. It has now progressed into Leo, mid-summer's peak passion, just as the sun has arrived there on its yearly cycle, aligning with Saturn's reinforcement on Saturday, July 23. We've entered a time of intensified passion. With Mercury's mental tide having just turned retrograde/internalizing for a few weeks, we are challenged to accept and adjust to mental reflection amidst it.
The weekend of July 23/24, the moon is in sensitive Pisces. The following week, the moon (heart spirit) builds in the spring part of the seasonal cycle, charged with anticipation by the weekend, going over the top into emotional release on Monday, August 1.
Mid-summer, especially the first week of August, has often seen historic events where tension building for awhile bursts into dramatic manifestation. With activating Mars moving into peak earth Taurus for the next sixth months (rare), the force of true nature is asserting itself. The new moon in Leo on the night of Thursday, August 4 is the power break-out turning point for this year. For the next ten days, passionate spirit comes out as the moon goes down the seasonal cycle, hitting bottom, rebounding in earthy Capricorn the night of Monday, August 15, just as the mental tide (Mercury) completes its internalizing and begins to shift forward again.
By the full moon on Friday the 19th, with creativity and dreams blending in awareness (Jupiter trine Neptune in air signs), the energy released in the wake of the new moon will polarize--sun in Leo, moon in Aquarius--into a new power alignment. Beyond all this lies Virgo, late summer's fruitful harvest, big this year, reflecting intensified times.
July 5, 2005
Two weeks into summer, the moon has finally climbed to the top of our seasonal roller coaster and joined the sun over the top, into the release of flowing feeling. The new moon Wednesday morning (July 6) is charged with yearning for real nurturance amidst sometimes overwhelming energy demands. Sun and moon align in personal sensitivity (Cancer/early summer), torn between activating passion (Mars in Aries/early spring) and expansive love-awareness (Jupiter in Libra/early autumn). The unfolding of this summer's creative manifestation has begun. It will continue to roll forward and outward from here. Let's give in to the weight of our heartful souls and see where it leads.
June 20, 2005
We've reached the summer solstice, the top of our "seasonal roller coaster," where energy that's been building for awhile shifts into flowing release. It's kicked off with a big full moon in primal earthiness Tuesday night, 6/21. Since expansive Jupiter is in Libra this year, aligning with deep feeling Neptune at the peak of Aquarius, there's a powerful undercurrent of awareness, especially dreams of true love and real harmony, that is a strong component of what will be unfolding this summer. By autumn, and for the next year, Jupiter will move into the focusing emotional intensity of Scorpio. Though I am concerned about what this will catalyze in the conflict between the power of nature (good) and tension-based control (not so good), it seems that whatever is going to happen will be part of a great purification, no matter the trauma it may involve. May it be a clarifying, healing experience for all of us.
Amidst the challenge of intensifying times and the difficulties of a troubled culture reaching critical crisis, the underlying divinity of creation is always there to support us with enduring nurturance. We must give in, and let the light of true nature have its way with us.
June 13-19, 2005
It's the last week of spring, the awareness near the top of our seasonal roller coaster (summer solstice), on the brink of major energy release. Our soul vitality (sun) is anchored by deep power at the bottom of things (Pluto in Sagittarius). The activating impulse (Mars) has crossed into individual passion (Aries), giving everything a stimulating kick.
The week begins with the heart spirit in fruitful productivity (moon in Virgo). Tuesday, wise mind grinds to a stop and begins months of deepening, internalizing, in tenderness (Uranus retrograde in Pisces). Wednesday, the heart crosses into colorful love awareness, this year reinforced by expansive creativity (moon in Libra, with Jupiter). Quick mind, charged with creativity, is blending with wisdom in emotional sensitivity (Mercury square Jupiter, trine Uranus in water signs).
Friday night, and for the weekend, the heart moves into undeniable magnetic feeling (moon in Scorpio), just as the soul has reached the pinnacle of mentality (sun in Gemini). Early next week the heart will hit bottom as the soul goes over the top, and, with the beginning of summer, a powerful wave, building for awhile, will start to break out in drama and style.
June 6-12, 2005
After months of backtracking and internalizing, the tide of expansive creativity (Jupiter) has begun to move forward again, in love mindedness (Libra). By the end of this week Mars will enter Aries and give it a kick.
Monday is the Gemini new moon, heart and soul (moon and sun) aligned in the mentality near the top of our seasonal roller coaster (summer solstice). They are anchored by the pull of deep feelings at the peak of awareness (Neptune in Aquarius). Late Tuesday the moon (heart) moves into release, joining Venus (beauty) in Cancer for a couple days of flowing feeling. Tension breaks between mind and power (Mercury opposite Pluto). Friday the moon progresses into Leo, the peak passion of mid-summer. Tension breaks between mind and action (Mercury square Mars), beauty and creativity (Venus square Jupiter). Late Friday night mind (Mercury) also goes over the top into emotional flow (Cancer).
Saturday night Mars, planet of expression, crosses into Aries, the spark of early spring. This is activating. Beauty is blending with wisdom in sensitivity (Venus trine Uranus in water signs). Sunday the moon is through the peak of Leo's radiant passion, heading into practical Virgo. Sitting at the top of the seasonal cycle, full of awareness and thought, momentum is shifting to outflow, with a spark of motivating fire that is powering us toward a break-out summer.
May 30-June 5, 2005
We've reached the last week of deep longing weighing us down. And it's happening as recent tension is coming to an end.
All three air signs are powerfully anchored, and the pressure of awareness can be overwhelming. It's the last week of big, expansive Jupiter retrograde/internalizing in Libra, mindfulness of love. It's backing to a stop deep within us, and late next Saturday night the tide finally turns toward outflow and manifestation. Also this week we are completing a three-way tension we've been experiencing lately between love (Venus), expression (Mars) and power (Pluto). It has all been somewhat trying, but it is part of the charging-up of a big wave which will release into the open this summer.
The week begins with the moon (heart), after a weekend in the mental alignment of Aquarius, now in the tender sensitivity of Pisces. Tuesday toward sunset it emerges into the spring passion of Aries. Tension breaks between the thinking soul (sun in Gemini) and wisdom in vulnerability (Uranus in Pisces). By Thursday, tension breaks between quick mind and deep mind (Mercury square Uranus) and action charged with power (Mars square Pluto). Friday, as the moon progresses into the peak spring fertility of earthy Taurus, mental sensitivity (Mercury) steps out ahead of soul vitality (sun), and love's beauty (Venus) leads them both into the flow of summer feeling (Cancer). The expressive impulse is blending with undeniable emotion (Mars trind Saturn in water signs).
By Sunday, Jupiter has finally begun to shift its weight forward, and the moon (heart) joins the sun (soul) in the (sometimes anxious) vision near the top of our seasonal roller coaster (Gemini) for Monday's new moon. Charged with intense awareness, aligned with love and dreams, we're building toward a powerful release beyond the summer solstice. It really will turn out to be the Year of the Rooster.

Holiday Kindness
Folks,
We're getting down to the bottom of things on our yearly trip around the seasonal cycle, winter solstice (December 21), when the vitality of the sun begins to rebound in earthy, constructive Capricorn, starting a new cycle of renewal. A transition marked by people everywhere with some sort of festival reverent of its precious significance.
Speaking of which, a gift certificate for a personal astrology reading can be a great, easy, and much-appreciated (last minute?) holiday present. I have a nice, friendly one I've done, in a fancy, colored envelope, that's a sure winner. For only $50 I'll give someone their birth chart, current chart (how today's alignment is affecting them), two pages of basic instructions with key words that anyone can understand, and a one hour reading — birth nature, present trend, future cycles, relationships — in person, in writing, by phone, on tape. It's pretty cool. You get the credit, I do the work.
You can read about my approach, and always find my astrology writing posted, on my website cosmiccircumstances.com.
Wishing everyone, even angry trouble-makers everywhere, warmth and peace always.
